Description
A classic spaghetti and meat sauce recipe.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
- 2 (6 ounce) cans tomato paste
- 1/2 cup water
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 12 ounces spaghetti
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Cook the spaghetti according to package directions.
- While the spaghetti is cooking, brown the ground beef in a large skillet over medium heat. Drain off any excess grease.
- Add the chopped onion to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute more until fragrant.
- Add the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, and water to the skillet. Stir to combine.
- Add the olive oil, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Stir well.
- Bring the sauce to a simmer, then reduce heat to low, cover, and let it cook for at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. For a richer flavor, you can let it simmer for up to an hour.
- Drain the cooked spaghetti and return it to the pot.
- Pour the meat sauce over the spaghetti.
- Toss to coat. Serve immediately, topped with grated Parmesan cheese.
Notes
- For a spicier sauce, add a pinch of red pepper flakes.
- You can add other vegetables like bell peppers or mushrooms to the sauce.
- Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
