Description

A classic comfort food dish featuring seasoned ground beef patties smothered in a rich mushroom gravy.


Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 8 ounces sliced mushrooms
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, 1/4 cup chopped onion, salt, and pepper. Mix well and form into four patties.
  2. Melt butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Brown patties on both sides, then remove from skillet and set aside.
  3. Add 1/4 cup chopped onion to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Add mushrooms and cook until browned.
  4. Sprinkle flour over the mushrooms and onions, stirring for 1 minute. Gradually whisk in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce. Bring to a simmer, stirring until thickened.
  5. Return patties to the skillet. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 10-15 minutes, or until patties are cooked through.

Notes

  • Serve with mashed potatoes or noodles.
  • For a richer gravy, you can add a splash of heavy cream.
