Description
A basic recipe for soft biscuits using powdered milk for a richer flavor.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup powdered milk (dry)
- 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
- 3/4 cup cold water
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit. Lightly grease a baking sheet.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, and powdered milk.
- Cut in the cold butter using a pastry blender or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Gradually add the cold water, mixing just until the dough comes together. Do not overmix.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Knead briefly, about 5 to 7 times.
- Pat or roll the dough to about 3/4 inch thickness.
- Use a biscuit cutter to cut out rounds. Place the rounds on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown.
Notes
- For softer biscuits, place the cut dough pieces close together on the baking sheet so they touch.
- You can substitute whole milk for water if you prefer, but reduce the amount slightly if the dough becomes too wet.
