Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup yellow cornmeal
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup milk
- 1/4 cup maple syrup
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit (200 degrees Celsius). Grease an 8×8 inch baking pan.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the milk, maple syrup, melted butter, and egg until combined.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined; do not overmix.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan.
- Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes before cutting and serving.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, use buttermilk instead of regular milk.
- If you prefer a less sweet cornbread, reduce the granulated sugar to 2 tablespoons.
