Description

A combination of brownies and chocolate chip cookies baked together, perfect for Halloween.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips
  • Orange and black food coloring (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9×13 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the sides.
  2. Prepare the brownie layer: In a medium bowl, whisk together the softened butter, granulated sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Stir in 1 cup of chocolate chips.
  4. Spread the brownie batter evenly into the prepared pan.
  5. Prepare the cookie layer: In another bowl, beat the melted butter and brown sugar until creamy. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract.
  6. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Stir in the remaining 1/2 cup of chocolate chips.
  7. If using food coloring, divide the cookie dough in half. Add orange food coloring to one half and black food coloring to the other half. Mix until the colors are uniform.
  8. Drop spoonfuls of the cookie dough (alternating colors if desired) randomly over the brownie layer. You can gently swirl the cookie dough into the brownie layer with a knife for a marbled effect.
  9. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out with moist crumbs attached.
  10. Let the brookies cool completely in the pan before lifting out using the parchment paper overhang and cutting into squares.

Notes

  • For a richer chocolate flavor, use high-quality cocoa powder.
  • You can add orange or black sprinkles on top before baking for extra Halloween decoration.
  • Cooling completely before cutting results in cleaner squares.
