Description
A straightforward recipe for making fun, spooky ghost-shaped popcorn balls.
Ingredients
Scale
- 6 cups popped popcorn
- 1 package (10 ounces) marshmallows
- 1/4 cup butter or margarine
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Black food coloring (gel preferred)
- Wax paper
Instructions
- Lightly grease your hands with butter or cooking spray.
- In a large saucepan, melt the butter over low heat.
- Add the marshmallows to the melted butter and stir constantly until completely melted and smooth.
- Remove the pan from the heat. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- Place the popped popcorn in a very large bowl. Pour the marshmallow mixture over the popcorn.
- Working quickly, use your greased hands to mix the popcorn and marshmallow until the popcorn is evenly coated.
- Shape the mixture into small balls, about 2 inches in diameter.
- To make the ghost shape, gently pull the top of the ball upwards to create a slight peak or ‘head’.
- Place the shaped popcorn balls on wax paper to cool and set completely.
- Once set, use a toothpick dipped in black food coloring to draw two small eyes on each ghost. Let the coloring dry.
Notes
- If the mixture becomes too stiff to work with, return the bowl to a very low heat source briefly to soften it.
- Use a non-stick cooking spray on your hands if butter makes them too greasy.
- For a stronger color, mix a few drops of black food coloring directly into the melted marshmallow mixture before adding the popcorn.
