Description

A simple recipe for savory dirty rice made with ground beef and vegetables.


Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 cup long-grain white rice
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper, chopped
  • 2 celery stalks, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme

Instructions

  1. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add the chopped onion, bell pepper, and celery. Cook until softened, about 5 to 7 minutes.
  3. Add the ground beef to the skillet. Cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned. Drain off any excess fat.
  4. Stir in the minced garlic, salt, pepper, and thyme. Cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
  5. Add the uncooked rice and beef broth to the skillet. Stir well to combine.
  6. Bring the mixture to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the skillet, and simmer for 20 minutes, or until the liquid is absorbed and the rice is tender.
  7. Remove from heat and let stand, covered, for 5 minutes before fluffing with a fork and serving.

Notes

  • For richer flavor, substitute half of the beef broth with chicken broth.
  • You can use ground pork or sausage instead of ground beef.
