Description

A recipe for making apple fritter flavored batter cooked in a waffle iron to create donut-like treats.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup finely diced apple (peeled)
  • Vegetable oil spray
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
  • 2 tablespoons milk (for glaze)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Whisk together flour, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt in a medium bowl.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk the egg, milk, melted butter, and granulated sugar until combined.
  3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined; do not overmix.
  4. Gently fold in the diced apple.
  5. Preheat your waffle iron and lightly spray with vegetable oil spray.
  6. Pour batter onto the hot waffle iron, using enough to cover the surface without overflowing.
  7. Cook according to your waffle iron’s instructions until golden brown and cooked through.
  8. Remove the waffle and place it on a wire rack. Repeat with remaining batter.
  9. While the waffles cook, prepare the glaze: Whisk together powdered sugar, 2 tablespoons milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Add more milk, one teaspoon at a time, if the glaze is too thick.
  10. Drizzle the warm waffle donuts with the glaze before serving.

Notes

  • Use firm apples like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp for the best texture.
  • You can substitute apple cider for the milk in the batter for a stronger apple flavor.
