Description

A recipe for sweet and savory orange glazed beef.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 lbs beef sirloin, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 cup orange juice, fresh squeezed preferred
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup rice vinegar
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger, grated
  • 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch mixed with 3 tbsp cold water (for slurry)
  • Orange zest from 1 orange
  • Sesame seeds, for garnish
  • Sliced green onions, for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, toss the sliced beef with soy sauce, 2 tbsp cornstarch, and sesame oil. Set aside for 15 minutes.
  2. In a separate small bowl, whisk together the orange juice, brown sugar, rice vinegar, garlic, ginger, and red pepper flakes. Set aside.
  3. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
  4. Add the beef in batches and cook until browned on all sides. Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside.
  5. Pour the orange sauce mixture into the skillet. Bring to a simmer.
  6. Whisk the cornstarch slurry again and slowly pour it into the simmering sauce, stirring constantly until the sauce thickens.
  7. Return the cooked beef to the skillet. Toss to coat the beef evenly with the sauce.
  8. Stir in the orange zest. Cook for 1 minute until heated through.
  9. Serve immediately over rice, garnished with sesame seeds and green onions.

Notes

  • For best results, slice the beef against the grain.
  • You can substitute flank steak for sirloin.
