Description

A simple recipe for classic meatball subs with marinara sauce.


Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 jar (24 ounces) marinara sauce
  • 4 sub rolls
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, milk, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Mix well.
  3. Roll the mixture into 1-inch meatballs.
  4. Brown the meatballs in a skillet over medium-high heat, or bake them on a baking sheet for 15-20 minutes until browned.
  5. Pour the marinara sauce into a saucepan and add the browned meatballs. Simmer for 10 minutes.
  6. Slice the sub rolls lengthwise, but not all the way through.
  7. Spoon the meatball and marinara mixture into the rolls.
  8. Top with mozzarella cheese.
  9. Place the subs on a baking sheet and bake for 5-7 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Notes

  • You can add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the meatball mixture for a little heat.
  • For extra flavor, toast the sub rolls lightly before filling.
