Simple Honey Bun Cake

Description

A moist cake with a sweet cinnamon-sugar swirl, topped with a simple glaze.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a 10-inch tube pan.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the buttermilk, beginning and ending with the flour mixture. Mix until just combined.
  6. In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar and cinnamon together.
  7. Pour half of the cake batter into the prepared pan. Sprinkle half of the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly over the batter. Top with the remaining batter, and then sprinkle with the remaining cinnamon-sugar mixture.
  8. Bake for 45 to 55 minutes, or until a wooden pick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before inverting it onto a wire rack to cool completely.
  10. While the cake cools, whisk together the powdered sugar and milk in a small bowl until smooth to make the glaze.
  11. Drizzle the glaze over the cooled cake.

Notes

  • You can use sour cream instead of buttermilk for a slightly richer texture.
  • Make sure your butter and eggs are at room temperature for easier mixing.
