Baked Penne With Sausage

Description

A simple and satisfying baked pasta dish with sausage and marinara sauce.


Ingredients

  • 1 pound penne pasta
  • 1 pound Italian sausage, casings removed
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook penne pasta according to package directions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a large skillet, cook Italian sausage over medium heat until browned. Drain off any excess grease.
  4. Add chopped onion to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  5. Stir in minced garlic and cook for 1 minute more until fragrant.
  6. Pour in crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer and cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  7. Add the drained penne pasta to the skillet with the sauce. Stir to combine.
  8. Transfer the pasta mixture to a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  9. Sprinkle mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses evenly over the top.
  10. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  11. Let stand for 5 minutes before serving.

  • For a spicier dish, use hot Italian sausage.
  • You can add other vegetables like bell peppers or mushrooms with the onion.
