A simple and satisfying baked pasta dish with sausage and marinara sauce.

- 1 pound penne pasta
- 1 pound Italian sausage, casings removed
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Cook penne pasta according to package directions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet, cook Italian sausage over medium heat until browned. Drain off any excess grease.
- Add chopped onion to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in minced garlic and cook for 1 minute more until fragrant.
- Pour in crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer and cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Add the drained penne pasta to the skillet with the sauce. Stir to combine.
- Transfer the pasta mixture to a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- Sprinkle mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses evenly over the top.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Let stand for 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
- For a spicier dish, use hot Italian sausage.
- You can add other vegetables like bell peppers or mushrooms with the onion.
- Serve with a side salad and garlic bread.
